The best part of waking up is… knowing that I get to attend the presentation at Random House to librarians and reviewers. I am a huge book nerd, especially when it comes to children and YA books. I am incapable of being “cool” when invited to listen to editors from Random House talk about their upcoming titles. It’s awesome and they have a continental breakfast. Hello? Is this book nerd heaven? Surrounded by librarians and editors at a huge publishing company, this girl from St. Louis was giddy all morning. Don’t let the cool exterior fool you. <insert eye roll here>
Things I’m looking forward to as a result of this morning’s fun:
- Listening to The Higher Power of Lucky via the free audiobook in my schwag bag.
- Reading The Alchemyst, a very exciting book in the running to replace beloved Harry Potter as he exits in the summer. I’m intrigued.
- Evolution, Me & Other Freaks of Nature. At first glance this seems to be the perfect teen chick lit for girl who actually live in the middle of the country as opposed to the Upper East Side. No, they don’t have nannies. Yes, kids actually have to go to Bible study on Wednesday, church on Sunday, and more church on Sunday night. It’s crazy, but true.
- Sending my nephew his Duck and Goose t-shirt, also free in my schwag bag. Iwould probably wear it if it wasn’t a size 3T. Oh well, this way I get Cool Aunt Points. I desperately need these as my younger sister takes them to the zoo pretty regularly.
As you can see, I’m still pretty excited about my morning spent listening to editors talk about books, drinking free coffee, talking to really cool librarians talk about books, listening to more editors talk about books, and then leaving with free books. This is a gazillion times better than life a year ago.
